Description

The funding for animal welfare measures in Burgenland is aimed at natural and legal persons with their main residence or registered office in Burgenland who wish to implement projects and initiatives for the benefit of animals. With grants ranging from 10% to 100%, the state of Burgenland supports measures to improve animal welfare as well as programs to raise awareness in the public and educational sectors. Funding is provided, among other things, for renovations to optimize housing conditions, accommodation and medical care of animals, transportation trips, feed costs, as well as innovative educational projects. A special focus is placed on voluntary charitable activities, neutering and rewilding actions for stray animals found, as well as the promotion of rare livestock breeds and alternative husbandry systems in accordance with the provisions of the Animal Welfare Act and the Burgenland funding guidelines.

From September 1, 2025, applications can be submitted continuously in writing via form to Department 10 – Veterinary Directorate and Animal Welfare until the funding volume is exhausted. Requirements include a detailed project plan, a cost breakdown, and for associations or companies, an appropriate register excerpt. Animal husbandry must comply with legal minimum standards; value-added tax and public fees are excluded from the grant. The funding body reviews submitted applications according to the principles of economy, efficiency, and appropriateness. With this funding program, Burgenland contributes to strengthening the population’s understanding of animal welfare and sustainably improving the well-being of farm animals, pets, and wildlife.
