Description
In Vorarlberg, the state promotes aquatic ecological and protective hydraulic engineering measures by public institutions and private individuals with a municipal background. The program aims to improve the ecological functionality of flowing waters by supporting measures for the restoration of morphologically impaired sections as well as for increasing fish and organism passage. Additionally, measures for flood protection and the harmless discharge of surface runoff to the next public water body are funded. Project preliminary services such as surveys and planning, investigations, as well as overarching plans (e.g., water body development and risk management concepts) are also eligible for grants, provided they have been legally approved and comply with the state of the art.
Up to 50% of eligible investment and preliminary costs are funded, with the regular funding rate ranging from 30% to 50% – depending on the measure and the size of the municipality. Cost overruns of up to 10% plus €10,000 are taken into account. Non-eligible costs include, for example, consequential damages from natural hazards, ongoing operating costs, or measures related to hydropower use. Applications are accepted until December 31, 2027; application documents to be submitted include the funding request, the officially approved project, and a report with accounting documents. The technical and financial acceptance is finally carried out by the Water Management Department, which also acts as the funding agency. This program supports municipalities and property owners in sustainable water body development and flood protection.
