Funding of Municipal Public Libraries

Funding Objective and Content
The state of Baden-Württemberg supports cultural initiatives in public libraries in rural areas through this program. The target group comprises municipally operated institutions that wish to expand their offerings with readings, media workshops, or interactive educational formats. The focus is on strengthening regional cultural and media work: funding enables the establishment of new event series, the initiation of cooperations with schools or cultural actors, and the implementation of innovative usage concepts. The goal is to sustainably improve library services in structurally weak areas and to increase the participation of all age groups in local cultural life.

Eligibility and Procedure
Only municipal sponsors in rural communities of Baden-Württemberg who aim to professionalize or diversify their library services are eligible for funding. An informal application describes the planned project, the budget, and the expected contribution to reading promotion or media literacy. Submissions are possible at any time, as continuous funding rounds are planned. Upon positive approval, libraries receive a grant that covers part of the project costs up to a specified funding rate. This support helps to modernize library services, expand access to digital media, and sustainably enhance the cultural profile of rural locations.
