Funding for Hospital Financing

In Baden-Württemberg, a statewide initiative is being funded to modernize and expand hospitals, which is open to public, non-profit, and private operators under the State Hospital Act. The goal is to ensure comprehensive and high-quality care. The funding guideline includes individual support for investment costs related to new construction, conversion, renovation, as well as the expansion of existing facilities and their initial outfitting with necessary fixed assets. Additionally, the replacement and supplementary procurement of short- and long-term equipment items is supported. The grant covers all eligible investment costs up to 100 percent. A lump-sum funding in the form of fixed annual amounts takes into account the number of beds and the assigned tasks as defined in the hospital plan and allows operators flexible use within the designated purpose.

Applications can be submitted continuously to Department 23 of the four regional administrative authorities, whereby prior coordination with the specialist departments is recommended, especially for complex projects involving the reallocation of usage fees or equity compensation. The legal basis is formed by the Baden-Württemberg State Hospital Act and the statewide hospital plan. Through comprehensive financial support – ranging from major projects such as new constructions to short-term procurements – the program makes an important contribution to stabilizing the healthcare infrastructure and promotes sustainable investments in modern treatment and care conditions. Operators thus gain planning security and can strengthen the quality of medical care in the state in the long term.
