Funding for Cargo Bikes (City of Deggendorf)

The municipal funding program of the city of Deggendorf has supported the acquisition of cargo bikes and bike trailers since January 1, 2021, in order to increase the share of bicycle traffic in the transport of private and commercial goods. The goal is to reduce trips by motorized individual traffic, lower local CO₂ emissions and noise, and alleviate spatial congestion within the city area. Applicants with their main residence or registered office in Deggendorf – including companies, freelancers, non-profit organizations, and private individuals – can receive funding for both single-track and two-track, registration-free cargo bikes with or without electric pedal assistance, as well as bike trailers. The funding contributes to the topics of climate protection, environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, smart cities & regions, and digitalization, promoting a sustainable mobility transition at the municipal level.

Funding covers 25% of the net acquisition or leasing costs (36 months) for cargo bikes (max. €750 with, €350 without electric assistance) and 30% for trailers (max. €300). A prerequisite is the application before the conclusion of the purchase or leasing contract as well as proof of main residence or company headquarters in Deggendorf. Eligible expenses include net purchase and leasing costs; subsequent modifications, accessories, and light cargo bikes without a transport box are excluded. The purpose binding extends over 36 months, during which the vehicles must be operated in compliance with traffic and usage regulations. Payment is made once annually upon submission of the approval notice, the purchase or leasing contract, and proof of payment.
