Description
The funding program “Living Centers” of the Hanseatic City of Stendal supports private and legal applicants in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt – including companies, cooperatives, interest groups, and non-profit organizations – in the preservation and development of the old town and station district cores. The goal is to secure and renew listed building fabric within the scope of the preservation statute “Old Town and Station District.” Eligible for funding are owners, leaseholders, or long-term users of individual buildings and building ensembles of urban and historical significance. A prerequisite for a grant is the coordination of planned measures with the lower monument protection authority.
Funding is provided, among other things, for roofing materials (e.g., tiles), facade design including plaster and painting work, as well as the repair or renewal of wooden windows and doors. The historic design of entrance areas, gates, and fences, security measures on individual monuments, preparation of modernization preliminary studies, inventories, and expert opinions, as well as comprehensive modernizations of the building interior and exterior can also be funded. The grant rate ranges between 30% and 90% of the recognized eligible costs, depending on the measure. If the calculated funding amount exceeds €50,000, the city council makes the final decision on the award. The continuously available funds come from federal, state, and municipal budgets and ensure a sustainable investment in the urban monument protection of Stendal’s historic centers.
