Description
With the funding initiative "Systems for the Extraction of Heat for Pipeline-Based Heat Supply," the state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports municipalities, municipal companies, associations, organizations, businesses, and public institutions in the technical preparation and feeding of otherwise unused waste heat into pipeline networks. Planning, procurement, installation, and grid connection of such systems are funded with up to 25% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of 100,000 euros. Conditions for approval include, among others, the distribution of the recovered heat or cold to multiple buildings via a closed pipeline network, a detailed system description, and proof of location within NRW. Applications can be submitted continuously until June 30, 2027, within the framework of available budget funds.
Evaluation criteria include the efficiency of the distribution network, the contribution to climate protection, and the economic viability of the project. Eligible costs include investment costs for brand-new systems as well as planning and consulting services and costs for grid connections. Ongoing operating costs and existing systems without expansion are not considered. The application process includes obtaining quotes, completing the online form including required documents such as cost estimates, contractor declarations, the "Company in Difficulty" statement, and the treasurer's declaration. After a positive review, the project receives a funding approval notice enabling the start of measures. The final proof of use leads to the disbursement of the grant and marks the successful completion of the funded project.
