Funding of vocational training centers in Saarland within the framework of the joint task "Improvement of the regional economic structure" (GRW)

Within the framework of the joint task "Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure" (GRW), Saarland, together with federal funds, supports the establishment, expansion, and modernization of public vocational training centers. The focus is on a future-oriented investment in the area of initial and continuing vocational training to continuously maintain technical and didactic standards at the latest level. The grant supports the acquisition and new construction of teaching buildings including the operationally necessary land, extensive expansions and conversions, as well as the provision of furniture, IT hardware, software, and teaching and learning media. By strengthening the learning infrastructure, regional human capital is to be expanded and economic strength in structurally weak areas of Saarland sustainably increased.

Eligible to apply are local authorities as operators of public vocational training centers classified as structurally weak within the GRW coordination framework. Modernization measures must go beyond mere restoration and ensure sustainable process quality through a quality management system certified according to ISO 9001. Overall financing must be secured, with a required own contribution of at least 40% of the eligible expenses. Properties must be used for the funding purpose for at least 15 years, and measures may only commence after the grant approval has been issued. Energy-related renovation without further modernization is excluded. The funding rate amounts to up to 60% of eligible expenses. Applications must be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture by August 15 of each year prior to the start of the measure and are approved following formal and technical review.
