Funding objective
The Free State of Thuringia supports projects that strengthen the understanding of democracy and contribute to greater tolerance and openness to the world. Funding is provided particularly for • local partnerships for democracy in districts and independent cities, • co-financing of measures funded by federal programs, • statewide prevention and model projects within the framework of the state program for democracy, tolerance, and openness to the world, • projects from an intervention fund for rapid responses to current developments.

Description
The Free State of Thuringia supports non-profit organizations, interest groups, municipal administrative partners, and associations that implement projects within the state to strengthen democratic structures, tolerance, and openness to the world. The thematic focus lies in the areas of culture, culture & media, and media. Supported are local partnerships for democracy in counties and independent cities, co-financing of measures from federal programs, statewide prevention and model projects, as well as rapid intervention funds for urgent needs. The goal is to promote democratic awareness, foster social diversity, and establish long-term civil society engagement.
Funding is provided as a grant with a project duration of up to 12 months and a funding rate between 30% and 90%. Eligible expenses include personnel costs, material costs, as well as coordination and consulting costs. Funding amounts can be up to €50,000 for local partnerships, up to 90% of recognized costs for other state measures, and up to €1,000 each from the intervention fund. Requirements include, among others, implementation based on the Thuringian State Program, majority participation of the Thuringian population, cooperation with commissioned advisory and support offices, the establishment of an accompanying committee composed of local actors, as well as secured overall financing. Evaluation is based on the project concept, the qualifications of the applicants and personnel, resource and cost calculation, as well as aspects of gender and diversity mainstreaming. Application deadlines vary depending on the measure and range from four weeks before project start to November 30 or October 1 annually.
