Funding objective

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture supports research projects in organic agriculture and the food industry, including aquaculture. Description

With the aim of significantly advancing the organic agricultural and food sector in Germany, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture nationwide funds research and development projects as well as measures for technology and knowledge transfer – including aquaculture. The initiative targets universities, research institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, public institutions, as well as interest groups and other associations with business operations in Germany. Both fundamental and development-oriented projects as well as practice-oriented demonstration projects are supported in order to establish innovative processes along the entire value chain and to sustainably strengthen societal services such as climate protection, resource conservation, biodiversity, animal health, and food safety.

The funding is granted as a grant and can cover up to 100% of the eligible costs. Considered are personnel costs, expenses for instruments and equipment, contract research, expertise and patents, consulting costs, additional overheads, as well as other project-related operating costs. Not eligible for funding are the acquisition of land and buildings, office furnishings and standard software, purchase of passenger cars and sales vehicles, as well as credit, leasing, and rental costs. The selection of projects takes place continuously within the framework of current calls; project outlines can be submitted continuously until June 30, 2030. Key evaluation criteria are the degree of innovation and federal interest, the contribution to the goals of the organic agricultural and food sector, the professional qualification and capacity of the applicants, as well as a convincing concept for knowledge transfer into practice.
