Funding of Municipal Roads and Municipal Bridges

The state initiative in Upper Austria is aimed at public institutions at the municipal level and focuses on the sustainable strengthening of municipal transport infrastructure. With a grant program for the construction, renovation, and maintenance of municipal roads and bridges, investments in road network operations are promoted as well as the repair of damage caused by natural disasters. This provides municipalities with predictable financial resources to keep transport routes safe and functional in the long term. The funding measure is situated within the context of urban and infrastructural development and supports inter-municipal networking as well as the mobility of the population in rural and urban areas.

From January 1, 2025, municipalities in Upper Austria can apply for funds until the budget is exhausted. The prerequisite is compliance with technical and legal requirements as well as an appropriate cost calculation according to the applicable funding guidelines of the State of Upper Austria. As an ongoing funding opportunity, the program ensures flexible implementation of municipal construction projects and guarantees needs-based budget planning. The processing is carried out by the Directorate of Road Construction and Transport at the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government; applications can be submitted in paper or digital form. Through this funding, municipalities receive a reliable basis to design road networks for the future and sustainably improve protection against weather-related damage.
