Promotion of Culture and Art (Birkner Foundation)

The Birkner Foundation in Saxony honors outstanding artistic achievements by students of the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig in the fields of Illustration and Book Design. As a sponsorship measure, the Birkner Prize is awarded continuously and is aimed at enrolled participants with proven expertise in the aforementioned degree programs. The focus of the funding is on education and creative development: In addition to the award ceremony, the foundation supports the preservation and accessibility of significant artworks by taking over and processing artistic estates. In this way, the recognition of individual talents is combined with the cultural heritage of the region.

To apply, enrollment at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig as well as affiliation with the Illustration or Book Design degree programs are prerequisites. The selection particularly values the level of innovation and the artistic quality of the submitted works. The continuous funding opportunities allow for flexible submissions without fixed deadlines, enabling dedicated creatives to receive timely recognition of their projects.
