Funding for Noise Protection Measures on State Roads in Styria
The State of Styria supports private individuals whose primary residence has been located along a state road for at least ten years and where the immission limit values are exceeded during the day (≥ 60 dB LA,eq) or at night (≥ 50 dB LA,eq). The goal is the sustainable improvement of living comfort through the reduction of traffic noise and thus the promotion of residents' health. Funding is provided for both new installation projects of soundproof windows and doors as well as the construction of noise protection walls as self-build projects. The state road administration assumes overall planning and provides all necessary documents in a detailed project folder. Applications can be submitted at any time by owners or tenants with the owner's consent based on a multi-year inventory analysis – an unlimited funding period guarantees planning security.

The funding amount is up to a maximum of 10,000 euros per residential unit, and, if economically justifiable, up to 100% of the recognized expenses. Applicants must submit a completed form, land register excerpt or rental contract, building permit decision, cost estimate, and sound insulation certificate. Eligible for funding are noise protection windows, doors, soundproof ventilation, and walls, but not interior renovations, electricity connection costs, or façade adaptations exceeding the flat-rate amount. After reviewing the submitted documents, applicants receive a written approval for the subsidy; payment is made after completion and acceptance of the measure. Evaluation is based on the current noise level, application date, and economic efficiency. This funding program combines infrastructure modernization with concrete urban and health protection and invites interested parties to obtain detailed information from the state road administration and to address their noise problem independently.
