Description
The state of Hesse supports Hessian couples with unfulfilled desires to have children through the program for the promotion of assisted reproduction measures. Private individuals with their main residence in Hesse can apply for a grant for the fourth IVF or ICSI treatment cycle, provided that three unsuccessful cycles have already been medically documented. Funding is provided for different-sex married couples and non-marital partnerships, same-sex female partnerships, as well as partnerships with fertile transgender persons. The aim is to reduce the financial barriers to reproductive medical treatments and to sustainably support the desire to have one’s own child.
A portion of the out-of-pocket costs remaining after billing with health insurance and aid agencies is funded – up to 75% for different-sex couples (max. €3,000 IVF, €3,300 ICSI), and up to 50% for the other aforementioned constellations (max. €2,000 IVF, €2,200 ICSI). The prerequisite is that treatment begins at a reproductive medical center in Hesse before the treated person’s 40th birthday (partner before their 50th birthday). The application is submitted continuously to the Gießen Regional Council and requires, among other documents, the completed application form, medical confirmation, cost plan, as well as proof of marriage/civil partnership and health insurance decision. The procedure takes place in two phases: first a written decision, then approval of the treatment, and after completion, payment upon submission of the original invoices. This program makes an important contribution to enabling the fourth treatment cycle and thereby increasing the chances of success in assisted reproduction.
