Promotion of measures for climate-friendly and environmentally sustainable vehicles as well as sustainable mobility services in public local passenger transport

The promotion of climate-friendly and environmentally sustainable vehicles as well as sustainable mobility services in public local transport in Lower Saxony supports public institutions and private transport operators in investing in low-emission fleets and forward-looking mobility concepts. The aim of this grant program is the procurement of electric, hydrogen-powered, or comparably environmentally friendly vehicles, as well as the expansion of necessary infrastructure, such as charging and refueling stations. Additionally, expenses for planning and consulting services can be co-financed. A prerequisite for funding is having a registered office or operational facility in Lower Saxony, compliance with technical requirements for low-emission vehicles, and proof of the planned project in public local transport. Operating costs or acquisitions of fossil-fuel vehicles are not eligible for funding.

The selection is based on a standardized evaluation procedure focusing on the contribution to climate protection, economic efficiency, and technical feasibility. Applications can be submitted informally throughout the year via the NBank customer portal. A detailed project description and binding cost estimates are required for the application. The Investment and Development Bank of Lower Saxony (NBank) supports applicants throughout the entire process and ensures transparency regarding the funding modalities. In particular, municipalities and transport companies in Lower Saxony benefit from this initiative to expand sustainable mobility services, increase regional value creation, and actively contribute to the energy transition in public local transport.
