Description

The funding program “Support for measures for climate-friendly and more environmentally friendly vehicles as well as sustainable mobility services in public local passenger transport (Mobility Centers 2023)” is aimed at public institutions in Lower Saxony, particularly at districts, independent cities, and municipalities belonging to districts. The program supports projects that enable the establishment and operation of mobility centers. These centers serve as central contact points where comprehensive information on multimodal mobility concepts is provided and individual advisory services are offered. The goal is to reduce motorized individual traffic and replace it with environmentally friendly alternatives, thereby contributing to the improvement of air quality and the promotion of climate-friendly transport structures.

The funding is provided as a grant covering between 40% and 60% of eligible expenses, depending on the regional classification as a transition region or a more developed region. Eligible costs include, among others, personnel expenses, material costs, technology, rent, as well as expenses for studies and concepts. The basis for the approval of the grant is proof of compliance with the local public transport, air quality, and climate protection plan, as well as secured overall project financing. The funding procedure is based on a scoring model, where projects must achieve at least 60 points to be considered eligible for funding. These transparent evaluation criteria enable targeted support for innovative and sustainable mobility concepts.

The targeted funding aims to create a demand-oriented and future-proof mobility infrastructure that facilitates the switch to low-emission transport alternatives and strengthens regional development. The mobility centers function as multifunctional advisory and coordination offices, where individual consultation, timetable planning, and the initiation of carpooling work together. At the same time, companies and authorities are supported in transitioning to sustainable mobility concepts, so that diverse target groups – from seniors and students to employees – equally benefit from the services offered. Overall, the program makes a significant contribution to promoting climate-friendly transport solutions and sustainable urban and regional development in Lower Saxony.
