Funding of prevention and counseling services in the field of addiction

In Bavaria, the State Ministry for Health, Care and Prevention supports the employment of addiction prevention specialists in non-profit organizations, public institutions, interest groups, and associations. The aim is to anchor addiction-related prevention approaches in all areas of life and to sensitize multipliers as well as mediators to psychosocial issues. At the same time, professional counseling for adolescents with addiction disorders and their relatives is strengthened. Funding is provided continuously as a non-repayable grant in the form of a fixed amount financing of up to 17,500 euros per full-time position per year. Up to 90% of personnel costs are covered, provided that a minimum own contribution of 10% is made. The project duration is 12 months, with the possibility of extension through reapplication.

Funded specialists must hold a bachelor's or diploma degree in social work or social pedagogy (or a comparably recognized qualification); alternatively, in individual cases, an addiction-specific additional qualification or several years of professional experience may be considered. The measures must be aligned with the "Principles for Addiction Prevention Work in Bavaria" and must be mandatorily recorded in the documentation system Dot.sys. Eligible to apply are addiction counseling centers, health and youth offices, as well as educational and youth counseling centers that offer multiplier training or provide direct counseling. Submission of complete documents – including diploma, proof of additional qualification or professional experience, and completed application form – is possible at any time and is to be made to the responsible approval authority in close professional coordination with the Ministry.
