Description
The state of Hesse promotes the barrier-free conversion of owner-occupied residential property with the aim of enabling independent and safe living. Eligible for funding are private owners or leasehold beneficiaries in Hesse whose household includes at least one person with a disability degree of ≥ 50% or a care level ≥ 2. The grant covers up to 50% of the eligible costs, up to a maximum of €15,000, for project costs between €1,500 and €30,000. All construction measures must comply with the requirements of DIN 18040 Part 2. Applications can be submitted at any time before the start of the conversion work to the responsible housing promotion office of the municipality, as long as budget funds are available.
Funding is provided particularly for conversion and installation measures in existing apartments as well as in the immediate living environment. This includes the modernization of bathrooms and kitchens, the installation of lifts or elevators, as well as individual measures such as ramp construction, removal of thresholds, and high-contrast design. Excluded are building extensions (except elevator installations), conversion measures related to acquisition processes, projects under €1,500, and own labor. Required for the application are, among other things: the application form, proof of severe disability or care level, ownership and self-use, multiple cost estimates, and proof of overall financing. After a positive review, the municipality forwards the application to the Economic and Infrastructure Bank of Hesse and issues a grant approval notice upon approval.
