Funding of Catalogues Raisonnés

The Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation offers a nationwide funding program for the creation of catalogues raisonnés of historical artists whose works are predominantly held in public museums, libraries, and exhibition venues in Germany. Non-profit and public institutions, as well as organizations supported by them, can apply for a grant to support the scholarly development, documentation, and publication of these catalogues. Through continuous allocation of funds, the foundation supports art historical research, promotes the visibility of regional collections, and contributes to the sustainable preservation of cultural heritage.

A prerequisite for a successful application is that the majority of the total works of a historical artist are held in public institutions and that the project is organized independently or in cooperation with a public institution. Applications can be submitted at any time; there is no formal deadline. Funding covers conception, editing, illustration, and printing to realize scientifically grounded publications as well as digital catalogues raisonnés. With an unbureaucratic and prompt review process, the foundation enables timely financial support, providing project holders with planning security and professional development. The initiative makes a decisive contribution to the systematic study of artists and the expansion of art historical discourse.
