Description

The Funding for Scientific Conferences by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation is aimed at chairs or co-chairs of international conferences in the field of life science basic research in biology, chemistry, medicine, and pharmacy. The goal is to strengthen scientific exchange within the EU and beyond by providing both outstanding early-career researchers and established scientists a platform to present their own results and initiate interdisciplinary collaborations. With grants for travel, accommodation, and registration fees, the program particularly supports the active participation of doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, young principal investigators, and keynote speakers. Only conferences with a European focus, organized by an academic institution or a non-profit organization and supported by an organizing committee with representatives from multiple institutes, are eligible for funding.

Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations as well as academic institutions that submit an application 8 months to 10 weeks before the conference start date via the online application tool. Required documents include a preliminary program, a list of invited speakers, and proof of non-profit status of the funding recipient. Selection is based on the quality of the scientific program and the concepts for promoting dialogue between early-career and leading researchers. Non-eligible items include, for example, purely local events, retreats of PhD programs, full funding of entire conferences, poster awards, and overhead costs. Decisions are made within up to ten weeks; afterwards, a final report including the final program, participant list, and proof of expenditure must be submitted. This program offers a valuable opportunity to expand networks within the global research landscape and to intensify intergenerational dialogue in the life sciences.
