Funding objective
The aim of the funding is to strengthen the landscape water balance and to implement sustainable water management. Measures to improve water storage capacities, reduce surface drainage, and adapt to weather-related extreme events as well as to anticipated water scarcity due to climate change will be supported. Furthermore, environmentally compatible management of water resources is to be promoted and European legal requirements, in particular the EU Water Framework Directive, are to be implemented.

Description
The funding to strengthen the landscape water balance (ELER RL LWH) supports companies, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and foundations in Brandenburg in measures for sustainable water management and climate adaptation. Projects aimed at improving water storage capacities, reducing land drainage, as well as precautionary measures against weather-related extreme events and anticipated water scarcity due to climate change are funded. With regard to the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive and the environmentally compatible management of water resources, conceptual studies, expert reports, and monitoring measures are also supported. Applicants select from various funding subjects, submit a project description, a financing plan, and a professional endorsement from the regional working group (RAG), and must undergo the mandatory technical review process at the Ministry of Rural Development, Environment and Consumer Protection (MLEUV).
The funding is provided as a grant covering up to 100% of eligible total costs (up to 80% for municipalities and municipal associations). Eligible expenses include planning costs, investments in water management measures, land acquisition (up to 10%), and procurement costs. Own contributions, fines, leasing, and interest costs are excluded. Conditions for approval include registration on the online portal (BNR-ZD and Authega certificate), a positive RAG endorsement, and proof of official permits. Applications must be submitted online via the Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg (ILB) by December 31, 2027. A carefully documented procurement procedure and compliance with transparency and equal treatment rules are mandatory so that, upon completion of the work, the proof of use can be prepared and the final 10% of the grant can be disbursed.
