Funding in the Field of Environment

Funding in the environmental sector supports projects and educational measures nationwide that make a tangible contribution to the sustainable development of society as well as to the protection of nature and the environment. Supported initiatives include, among others, those in the fields of energy efficiency & climate protection, renewable energies, environmental/nature conservation, and education for sustainable development. A wide range of organizations and individuals are eligible to apply – from non-profit associations, foundations, cooperatives, and public institutions to companies, educational institutions, start-ups, and private individuals. Funding is provided in the form of non-repayable grants, with no volume limit, and applications can be submitted throughout the year.

The guideline places particular emphasis on the proper use of funds: a detailed record of all income and expenses must be submitted in electronic or paper form, with random audits and on-site inspections planned. Reports must be submitted on time, and extensions can be requested in writing. This ensures transparent accounting and prevents misuse. In particular, sustainable educational initiatives, professional training, and innovative environmental protection projects benefit from this ongoing funding, which is managed by Section VI (Climate) of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection.
