Description
The German Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and the DMSG Federal Association e.V. offer a nationwide research funding program that specifically supports projects in applied basic and clinical MS research. Eligible applicants include private individuals, educational institutions, non-profit and public organizations planning independent studies with a clear focus on multiple sclerosis. Up to €100,000 per project and year is granted as a subsidy; the maximum duration is 24 months. Additionally, funding can be provided for shortfall financing, scholarships for early-career researchers, and symposia to promote innovative approaches and scientific exchange. Allocation of funds is decided by the Executive Board upon recommendation of the Medical Advisory Board and depends on the availability of earmarked third-party funds.
Applications can be submitted annually in English by email and must comply with the current funding guidelines. Required documents include, among others, a bilingual German-English CV, a publication list, abstract and state of research, independent preliminary work, work program, as well as a detailed budget breakdown (personnel, material, and travel costs). Independent reviewers evaluate applications based on scientific excellence, relevance for MS patients, and average score; in case of a tie, younger applicants are given preference. Compliance with deadlines and funding guidelines is a central prerequisite. Funding decisions are accompanied by annual interim and final reports documenting progress and ensuring sustainable impact for those affected.
