Description
FREIRÄUME! – Initiative for Cultural Integration Projects of the Hamburg Cultural Foundation has been supporting long-term and regularly occurring artistic and cultural-educational programs for children and young people with refugee experience in Hamburg since 2016. Private individuals, start-ups, non-profit organizations, and public institutions can submit applications at any time and receive a grant of up to €15,000 per project with a funding rate of 100%. Funding covers fees for artistic and cultural-educational activities as well as material costs such as supplies and proportional room rental. A prerequisite is established, extracurricular project work and trusting relationships with the target group. The continuous application process enables a quick project start and creates stable, creative learning environments, for example in neighborhood cultural centers, music workshops in residential accommodations, or dance and media projects in local communities.
The goal of FREIRÄUME! is to promote empowerment and participation through intercultural exchange and artistic processes. Particular emphasis is placed on practical experience working with refugee children and youth, creating protected spaces for creative development, and sustainable anchoring in the local environment. Experienced artists, art therapists, and cultural educators as well as institutions of cultural education are invited to submit their project ideas with a detailed concept, budget plan, and work samples. The initiative thus contributes to social integration and builds reliable bridges between different cultures – an approach that has already gained recognition in numerous follow-up projects and offers children and young people lasting perspectives.
