Description

The initiative "Frogs, Orchids and Co. – Species Protection" has been promoting targeted conservation measures in the Diepholz district of Lower Saxony for several years. The program focuses on projects for amphibian protection, particularly for the tree frog, as well as an extensive orchid maintenance program on wet meadows. In cooperation with nature conservation associations and landscape management organizations, so-called marsh orchid species such as the broad-leaved, spotted, overlooked, and flesh-colored marsh orchids are maintained and secured for the long term. Thanks to regular maintenance efforts, even the smallest remaining populations have been preserved and population declines halted. The measures contribute significantly to the preservation of regional biodiversity and illustrate sustainable habitat management on site.

Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, interest groups, and public institutions that wish to implement species protection projects in the Diepholz district. The program awards grants for the implementation and maintenance of measures aimed at securing endangered amphibian and orchid populations. Applications can be submitted at any time, provided the project execution takes place within the funding area. The funding body, the Nature Conservation Foundation in the Diepholz district, continuously supports innovative concepts in the fields of environmental/nature conservation, animal welfare, as well as energy efficiency and climate protection, in order to sustainably strengthen local biodiversity.
