Description
The Friedrich Wingert Foundation awards up to ten scholarships annually in the field of IT in healthcare to support innovative research projects in medical informatics, bioinformatics, linguistics, and medicine. Funding is provided to students and early-career researchers at universities and academic institutions in Germany. Each scholarship offers funding of up to €5,000 for a duration of twelve months; a one-time award per person is intended. The goal is the further development of methods and algorithms for the computer-assisted analysis of medical texts as well as the optimization of medical and nursing documentation processes.
Applications must be based on project work conducted as part of a study, project, or thesis, the degree program in IT in healthcare must continue for at least two more semesters, and an independent contribution in team projects must be demonstrated. Selection is made by an independent jury based on criteria such as final grade, originality, relevance to care and process optimization, previous engagement, cultural and social activities, and individual support needs. A letter of motivation, a project outline or report, and a letter of support from a university supervisor must be submitted. The application deadline is July 15 each year, with the selection decision made by July 31. Interim or final results are presented at the GMDS Annual Meeting; outstanding contributions are considered for the Friedrich Wingert Prize.
