Description

Visiting Scholars at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) offer an excellent opportunity for academically qualified researchers to undertake temporary stays in Mainz. The program is aimed at scholars in the field of European history as well as related disciplines who carry out their projects through self-funding or with the support of external scholarships. Over a period ranging from a few weeks up to six months, visiting scholars gain access to a shared office, extensive scientific infrastructure, and the renowned specialized library of the IEG. In addition to affordable accommodation in the fellows’ residence or the fully equipped guest apartment in Mainz’s old town, the program includes the presentation of the research project in the weekly research colloquium to promote international dialogue and initiate collaborations.

Application and Funding Conditions
Interested individuals may apply at any time, as selection is ongoing. A prerequisite is independent funding or a scholarship from another funding organization. For the decision process, a letter of motivation, a concise description of the research project, and a current CV must be submitted in digital form. The monthly rent amounts to 300 euros in the fellows’ residence or 750 euros in the guest apartment. Additionally, the use of the shared office and all scientific resources of the institute are funded. Through this grant program, the IEG makes an important contribution to strengthening transnational scientific exchange and supports early-career researchers in further developing their research results in an inspiring environment.
