Description
The GEH DEINEN WEG Journalism Scholarship is aimed at young journalists between the ages of 21 and 29 with their own or a family migration background and primary residence in Germany. Within the framework of this one-year mentoring and scholarship program, the Germany Foundation for Integration, in cooperation with SPIEGEL, enables five selected participants to gain direct access to established media structures. In addition to individual mentoring by experienced SPIEGEL editors, the scholarship holders have the opportunity to participate in workshops, seminars, and internal training sessions, as well as to complete internships and practical placements in various departments of SPIEGEL. The goal is to strengthen diversity in the German media landscape and to support young journalists with a migration background in their professional development. The scholarship holders also benefit from an extensive network of current and former program participants, as well as exclusive exchange formats with the editorial management and other media professionals.
Applications are possible nationwide and can be submitted from June 1 to August 31, 2026. Requirements for participation include initial German-language journalistic experience from training, studies, or professional work, a strong sense of social responsibility, interests in politics, economics, and contemporary history, as well as special extracurricular qualifications. The program starts on January 1, 2027, and lasts twelve months. Upon completion, graduates automatically become part of the GDW alumni network, remain connected through foundation-owned platforms, and participate in future alumni events. This offering makes a significant contribution to equal opportunities and diversity in German media and sustainably promotes committed young journalists with a migration background.
