Global Professorship Program

The Global Professorship Program of the state initiative “Global Partnership in Science” is aimed at state universities in Baden-Württemberg that wish to attract exceptional international scientists at career levels S3/S4 for W3 professorships in future-oriented fields of natural and engineering sciences. The focus is on “rising stars” from areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Climate and Energy Research, Health Sciences, or Medicine/Life Sciences, who have already worked independently abroad for at least three years. Through supplementary financial resources, universities are enabled to create attractive and flexible appointment packages to inspire top talents for research and teaching at the Baden-Württemberg location. Applications can be submitted continuously and are exclusively reserved for public institutions.

Up to €2 million per application can be requested as a purpose-bound grant for personnel expenses, material and capital expenditures, as well as travel costs. At least 50% of the funding amount must be allocated to capital expenditures. The decision criteria include the excellence of the candidates, the strategic development concept of the university, and the expected contribution to the scientific field. A prerequisite is an already issued call to a W3 professorship that has not yet been accepted, as well as the assumption of the position within the funding period. For the application, a completed application form, a statement from the university, a financial plan with own contribution, the CV of the person to be appointed, and expert opinions from the appointment procedure must be submitted. The funding complements existing appointment packages and contributes to sustainably strengthening the international visibility and innovative strength of Baden-Württemberg universities.
