Description
The Hamburg Green Roof Funding supports voluntary roof and facade greening on residential and non-residential buildings in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg with one-time grants of up to 100,000 euros per building. The program aims to improve the urban climate, retain rainwater in a targeted manner, and strengthen biodiversity in urban areas. Eligible costs include material expenses, execution work, and maintenance after completion; with proven qualification, partial subsidies for own labor can also be granted. The funding rates range between 40% and 60% depending on the applicant, with private owner-occupiers and condominium owners generally receiving 60% of the recognized costs. Photovoltaic modules, solar thermal collectors, and greening measures mandated by building or nature conservation regulations are not eligible for funding. Applications can be submitted continuously before the start of the measures.
Eligible applicants include owners and leasehold holders of buildings in Hamburg. A prerequisite is submission before construction begins, compliance with technical requirements, and professional implementation by qualified companies. Construction measures must be completed within two years of approval, and the greening must be maintained for at least 15 years. Furthermore, secured financing must be demonstrated, all grant obligations must be transferable to potential legal successors, and any disposals must be reported to IFB Hamburg. The Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg) processes the approvals on behalf of the Authority for Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture and contributes to sustainable urban development.
