Description
The Hamburg Ramadan Pavilion is an annual, three-day dialogue and cultural event held during the fasting month of Ramadan in Hamburg. Under the patronage of the Muhajirin Mosque – The Islamic Association e.V. and funded by the AL MANAR Foundation for Islamic Education and Culture in Hamburg, this intercultural event offers a varied stage program, information tents, exhibitions, and panel discussions. The centerpiece of the format is the communal breaking of the fast (Iftar) at sunset, which provides participants the opportunity to experience personal encounters in a relaxed atmosphere and gain insights into Muslim life in Germany. The pavilion is equally aimed at Muslim and non-Muslim visitors as well as civil society activists, promoting lively exchange on equal footing through culinary delights, musical performances, and artistic contributions.
With its focus on education, culture, work & social affairs, as well as commitment to social cohesion, the Hamburg Ramadan Pavilion deliberately sets impulses against prejudice and apprehension. It creates a platform for societal dialogue as a whole and strengthens the networking of local cooperation partners in the Hamburg-Mitte district. Volunteer helpers are supported through empowerment programs and practical workshops and receive opportunities for professional development. As a sponsorship project for non-profit organizations and public institutions, the pavilion sustainably contributes to the promotion of interreligious understanding and underscores Hamburg’s role as a pioneer in intercultural coexistence.
