Description

The “Hamburger Spielräume” fund supports non-profit organizations engaged in extracurricular child and youth work in Hamburg in implementing low-threshold leisure activities. Funding is provided for play, movement, cultural and nature experiences as well as small short trips and workshops that create spaces for encounters, creative participation, and communal experiences. The focus is particularly on projects that reach disadvantaged children, youth, and families, offering them positive impulses and enabling participation in social life. With a maximum funding amount of up to €3,500 per application, personnel costs, material expenses, travel, and catering costs can be covered. Funds are allocated in three project periods: Spring/Summer (24.02.–19.08.2026), Summer/Autumn (09.07.–30.10.2026), and Autumn/Winter (19.10.–31.12.2026), with applications accepted from 03.02., 16.06., and 29.09.2026 respectively.

A brief online application is required, supplemented by a project description and proof of fund utilization. Selection is based on criteria such as a participatory concept, qualified project management, and direct target group relevance. Decisions on funding requests are made within 15 working days – inquiries are handled by email or phone if necessary, without on-site visits. Each organization may submit up to four applications annually (maximum total funding of €10,000), with each location allowed to submit two applications. The fund is coordinated by the BürgerStiftung Hamburg and supported by a broad alliance of local foundations. Through this initiative, young people from all neighborhoods of Hamburg gain uncomplicated access to valuable community experiences that strengthen their resilience and promote social participation.
