Description

The Capital Cultural Fund supports innovative individual cultural projects and events in Berlin that have national and international impact. Funding is provided for initiatives in the fields of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Film, Literature, Media Art, Music, Contemporary History, as well as inter- and transdisciplinary formats. Eligible applicants include natural and legal persons – from artists and cultural professionals to companies, interest groups, or other associations – who plan and implement creative content in the capital. Funding is granted as a non-repayable subsidy, the amount of which depends on the type and scope of the project.

A prerequisite for a successful application is the presentation of the project in Berlin with at least four performances or events, including a discipline-typical opening, a concept for accessibility, and proof of national and international relevance. For theatre, dance, and music projects, prior public funding is required, and applicants must not be enrolled as students at the time of the grant. Submission via the online application portal requires a detailed project description, a financing plan, as well as a copy of the identity card or registration certificate (not required for Berlin-based institutions). The application deadlines are generally mid-April and early October, with project start possible from January 1, 2026. The Senate Department for Culture and Europe makes decisions based on a jury recommendation.
