Description
The Helmut & Babs Amos Scholarship offers dedicated students and researchers from Germany and South Africa the opportunity to broaden their academic horizons in engineering and applied natural sciences. It supports exchange projects between German universities and outstanding South African institutions such as Stellenbosch University, the University of Cape Town, or the University of the Witwatersrand. Both master's students and doctoral candidates benefit from financial support for study and research stays in the partner country. The initiative stems from the long-standing connection of engineer Helmut Amos and his late wife Babs, who wish to sustainably strengthen cross-border collaboration through private donations. Applications can be submitted at any time, as this is an ongoing funding opportunity. The award is granted in the form of a scholarship sponsorship by the DAAD Foundation and recognizes outstanding achievements both academically and socially.
Eligibility for application requires enrollment or doctoral studies in engineering or related natural sciences, as well as exceptional academic performance. Ideally, evidence of social engagement is also provided. Good English and German language skills ensure smooth integration into both academic environments. Selection is based on criteria such as academic excellence potential and willingness to actively contribute to international research cooperation. Participants benefit not only from financial relief but also from the opportunity to further intensify existing university partnerships and build long-term networks between Germany and South Africa. In this way, the program makes a sustainable contribution to the global networking of engineering and natural sciences.
