Assistance in Special Life Situations, Lower Austria

The "Assistance in Special Life Situations" in Lower Austria is aimed at individuals who find themselves in an acute, involuntary emergency due to extraordinary personal, familial, economic, or social difficulties. Funding is provided either as non-repayable grants or interest-free loans to establish and secure the economic livelihood, continue household management, and maintain an orderly family life. During the heating period (November to March), a heating cost subsidy is automatically paid out. The measure is offered continuously, finances 100% of eligible expenses, and, by considering urgency, sustainability, and social integration, strengthens participation in social life.

Eligible to apply are Austrian citizens or equivalent persons (EEA, permanent residence - EC) with primary residence in Lower Austria; simultaneous receipt of social assistance excludes funding. The acute emergency must be demonstrated through a home visit by a social expert and submission of supporting documents. Eligible expenses include living costs, heating costs, and household management. Required documents include, among others, the signed social assistance application, proof of citizenship, birth certificate, income statements, medical reports in case of disability, and proof of family allowance receipt. Applications can be submitted at any time to the responsible district administrative authority or municipality of residence (valid from 14.11.2013, unlimited).
