Assistive Devices for People with Disabilities

Aids for People with Disabilities offers continuous grant funding in Vienna for the acquisition and repair of movable aids for people with disabilities. The aim of this initiative is to compensate for physical impairments with individually adapted items and to improve participation in everyday life (§ 15 para. 1 CGW). Private individuals with their main residence or habitual abode in Vienna can submit an application to the Fonds Soziales Wien (FSW) at any time. Requirements include a recognized disability, Austrian citizenship or equivalence (§ 4 CGW), as well as residence in Vienna. Expenses for the new acquisition and proper repair of aids are funded. These include, for example, wheelchairs, prostheses, communication aids, and other movable physical items. Application documents include the FSW application form, official photo ID, proof of citizenship or equivalence, residence, and a copy of the disability pass.

The funding decision is made indefinitely after professional review and is communicated in writing to the applicants as well as to the recognized specialist agency. Payment is made directly to the service providers. Subsequent adjustment or reclaiming of funds is provided for if conditions are not met.
