Description
The Social Fund Vienna (FSW) offers Vienna residents with disabilities, according to the Vienna Equal Opportunities Act, grants for a range of individually tailored aids and consumer goods. Funding is provided for medical devices such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, and specialized furniture, customer-specific car adaptations up to €5,000 gross, guide dogs for the blind up to €15,000 gross, as well as consumer goods up to €5,000 gross in exceptional hardship cases. The aim is social rehabilitation and strengthening participation in everyday life. Support is provided subsidiarily when disability-related barriers can be sustainably reduced for the clients through the acquisition of these aids and the planned expenses are in a reasonable proportion to the achieved benefit.
Applications can be submitted at any time via the FSW customer service. Requirements include main residence in Vienna, Austrian citizenship or equivalent status, and proof of disability. Additionally, a needs assessment by the FSW or a valid expert report must be submitted. Fully completed applications include the filled-out form, medical report, cost estimate or invoice, registration certificate, photo ID, proof of citizenship, care allowance notice, and proof of maintenance if relevant. Decisions are made based on medical necessity, financial need, and cost-benefit ratio. Grants are paid out directly and are non-transferable to other persons. Thanks to the unlimited, ongoing funding format, needs-based investments can be planned and implemented in the long term to reduce barriers, ensure mobility, and promote self-determined participation in social life.
