Funding objective

Description

The Innovative Wood Program (HIP) supports the material and energetic use of wood in Baden-Württemberg. Funding is provided to small and medium-sized enterprises, research institutions, public and non-profit organizations, cooperatives, interest groups, start-ups, as well as private individuals. The focus is on projects in the areas of business financing, agriculture & rural development, consulting, research & innovation, and exemplary timber construction projects. The two-stage selection process begins with a project outline, which must be submitted annually by March 15 and September 15; timber construction projects can also be registered by June 15 and December 31. After a positive preliminary selection by the Forest & Wood Cluster Advisory Board or the Timber Construction Jury, the formal application must be submitted to the L-Bank within six months.

The program aims to increase the innovative strength of the Forest & Wood Cluster, open up new fields of application, and contribute to climate protection. The funding rate varies between 40% and 100% of eligible expenses depending on the measure; the ERDF share is at least €100,000 and can amount to up to €2 million per project. Eligible costs include investments, personnel expenses including a 15% overhead flat rate, material costs, and depreciation. Excluded are land acquisition, VAT with input tax deduction, and commercial residential construction projects. Evaluation criteria include innovation potential, SME orientation, contribution to sustainable value creation, professional competence, as well as architectural design and exemplary character for timber construction projects. The project must be carried out in Baden-Württemberg, comply with ERDF regulations, and have a binding period of 15 years (structural) or 5 years.
