Description
Horizon Europe is the European Union's central research and innovation framework program for the period 2021–2027. Participants from companies, public institutions, educational establishments, as well as associations and federations can be funded in thematic priorities such as Smart Cities & Regions, Mobility, Digitalization, and Research & Innovation. The program aims to build a knowledge- and innovation-based society, strengthen industrial competitiveness, and contribute to sustainable development. Innovative market uptake is supported, while excellent science is promoted and global challenges addressed. Funded projects are expected to deliver clear added value for the EU and sustainably strengthen European value chains.
Applications are submitted via two-year work programs and specific calls in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. Eligible applicants are legal and natural persons from EU member states and associated partner countries. For collaborative projects, a consortium of at least three independent partners from three different countries is required; in selected sub-areas, single applications are also possible. Funding rate: 70%–100% of eligible costs. The evaluation considers the excellence of the scientific and technical approach, impact for the EU, quality and efficiency of implementation, as well as innovation content and market potential. Deadlines vary depending on the call and generally allow for a submission period of three to four months.
