Description
The Humanism Prize for Human Rights, awarded every two years by the Humanism Foundation Berlin, honors outstanding commitment to human rights, freedom, justice, enlightenment, and tolerance with an endowment of €10,000. The prize is aimed at private individuals from Berlin and Brandenburg who have distinguished themselves through exceptional life achievements and social engagement for the right to self-determined living and dying, as well as for freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. Contributions to freedom of opinion and information, as well as social security, are also recognized. The award is intended to send a clear signal for humanistic values and to draw attention to exemplary projects and initiatives that strengthen democracy and social cohesion. Previous laureates, such as journalists, activists, and scientists, illustrate the range of honored achievements and inspire further commitment.
Nominations are made exclusively by jury members in accordance with the award guidelines, which require a written or digital submission of the nomination. The Humanism Foundation Berlin works closely with the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg to ensure a transparent selection process. The goal is to promote outstanding actors and anchor their work in societal discourse. Interested jury members can submit their proposals by the respective submission deadline. The prize reaffirms the shared commitment to making democracy-promoting initiatives and humanistic projects visible and supporting them sustainably.
