Description

The Hygiene Award of the B. Braun Foundation honors outstanding contributions to infection prevention in healthcare facilities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Recognized are practice-relevant theses, projects, or campaigns by hygiene specialists that effectively reduce nosocomial infections and can be transferred to other institutions. Key criteria include relevance to infection prevention, degree of innovation, practical feasibility, as well as sustainability and transfer potential. Each of the three winning entries receives a prize of 500 euros and will be presented at the FORUM HYGIENE 2027 of the Aesculap Academy. Presentation costs are covered, and a member of the awarded team will represent the submitted work with German-language slides under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Christine Geffers at the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus.

Eligible to participate are private individuals working as hygiene specialists with residence or professional activity in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. Submissions are accepted exclusively online via the application portal (01.09.2026 to 31.10.2026) and must include a CV, abstract (up to 4,000 characters), and the original thesis or project description. Submitted documents should transparently present the initial situation, objectives, implemented measures, achieved results, and transfer possibilities. The jury, chaired by Prof. Dr. Geffers, Sebastian Maletzki (hygiene expert at B. Braun), and another member, evaluates according to fixed award criteria. With the Hygiene Award, the non-profit B. Braun Foundation promotes practice-oriented innovations and strengthens patient safety in healthcare.
