Funding objective
Within the framework of the research cooperation of the International Energy Agency, Austrian participation in the IEA's research cooperations (Tasks, Annexes) is funded. These include research activities on internationally agreed priorities, national networking and dissemination tasks, as well as delegate activities. The focus is on dependence on oil-exporting countries, crisis management to secure oil supply, and the development and dissemination of new energy technologies and efficient end-use technologies.

Description
As a continuously available grant in the Vienna area, the IEA – Research Cooperation International Energy Agency enables Austrian companies and research institutions to participate in the diverse tasks and annexes of the IEA. The focus is on research and innovation in the fields of energy efficiency & renewable energies as well as energy efficiency & climate protection. Emphasis is placed on securing oil supply, crisis management, the development of forward-looking energy technologies, and efficient end-use technologies. Through international cooperation, national networking and dissemination tasks are promoted, as well as delegate activities, to increase Austria’s R&D intensity and sustainably anchor know-how in the domestic sector. Cooperation within the framework of the IEA’s Technology Collaboration Programs (TCPs) complements national energy research and enables early access to international developments.
Eligible for funding are companies, educational institutions, and other actors in the energy sector based in Vienna who conduct research according to the IEA priorities. The funding is granted as a direct federal subsidy and is non-repayable; the budgeted volume amounts to approximately 2.5 million euros. Applications can be submitted electronically via eCall at any time since January 1, 2013. Submission requires a detailed project description, a cost and financing plan, and an eCall registration confirmation via email. Eligible expenses include personnel costs, instrument and equipment expenses, material and supply costs, travel expenses, and overhead costs. Evaluation criteria include thematic relevance to the IEA, degree of innovation, strategy for national networking and dissemination, as well as the quality of delegate activities. The funding aims at a sustainable strengthening of Austria’s research, technology, and innovation intensity in the energy sector.
