Description
The funding program InAWi: Climate Peatland Protection – Preparation for Rewetting in Peatland Regions supports actors nationwide from agriculture, nature conservation, municipalities, and civil society organizations in the planning and preparation of rewetting measures in peatlands. Funding is provided for concept developments and feasibility studies that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preserving peatland ecosystems in the long term. Under the umbrella of the Natural Climate Protection Action Program (ANK), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) helps to revitalize valuable wetlands as natural carbon sinks.
Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, companies, public institutions, and private individuals with proven active involvement in the planning of peatland rewetting measures. ZUG gGmbH acts as the project sponsor and continuously manages applications. Evaluation criteria include the potential for emission reduction, ecological impacts, as well as the feasibility and planning depth of the measure concepts. Through the continuous application option, interested parties can submit project proposals as needed and receive financial grants for preliminary investigations, mapping, hydrological analyses, and cross-stakeholder coordination processes. This program makes an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity and climate adaptation in Germany by laying the groundwork for sustainable renaturation of peatland landscapes while promoting local and national climate protection goals.
