Description
In exceptional cases, the Carl Zeiss Foundation provides financial support for individual scientific projects in the STEM disciplines of mathematics, computer science, as well as natural and engineering sciences. Funding is granted for innovative research and development projects located at universities, research institutions, or comparable organizations in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Thuringia. As a grant provider, the Foundation focuses on forward-looking approaches and practical applications that contribute to the advancement of STEM subjects and promote scientific exchange between disciplines. The offer is open to non-profit organizations and educational institutions operating within the specified geographical area and possessing the potential to sustainably anchor scientific knowledge.
To submit an individual funding request, registration in the Foundation’s digital funding portal is required. A concise project description is requested, clearly outlining the objectives, methodological approach, and expected benefits. Projects outside the STEM sciences, commercially oriented initiatives, school and preschool educational projects, as well as individual assistance for private persons or clubs, are not funded. Also excluded are gap financing of public budgets, replacement of lost third-party funds, construction measures outside funded projects, individual funding outside scientific endeavors, and grants for events, travel, or publications without direct project relevance. Only fully and digitally submitted requests will be considered. This selective approach enables targeted allocation of funding and strengthens research capacities in the specified federal states.
