Description

The inclusion initiative of the DFB Foundation Sepp Herberger promotes equal participation of people with disabilities in organized football nationwide. Since 2012, the umbrella initiative has financially supported all 21 DFB regional associations in employing inclusion officers who serve as direct contacts for questions related to disability football. These experts network barrier-free offerings, advise clubs and volunteers, and initiate flagship projects such as the Blind Football Bundesliga or the Football Inclusion Days. This creates diverse active and passive participation opportunities—whether as a player, referee, supervisor, or spectator. Non-profit organizations and public institutions can apply for personnel cost funding at any time, provided they belong to a DFB regional association and demonstrate active work in the field of disability football.

The funding instrument aims to sustainably establish structures in which people with disabilities can engage in sports autonomously and become part of the football family. In addition to personnel funding, it enables clubs to mark inclusion-appropriate offerings in the club registration form and make them visible in the nationwide disability exchange. This makes it easy to find suitable teams, tournaments, and projects, fostering inclusive networks locally. The continuous awarding of grants ensures that commitment and social cohesion in sports are strengthened across the country. Interested stakeholders from sports, culture, and social sectors find a reliable partner in the inclusion initiative to break down barriers and sustainably advance inclusion in football.
