Description
The innovatio Social Award 2026 honors nonprofit, denominational organizations throughout Germany that strengthen social cohesion, intergenerational cooperation, and socially just climate protection through social innovations. Projects that have completed their planning phase and are already in implementation can be submitted. A formal affiliation with an ACK church, Caritas, or Diakonie as well as a substantive alignment with the guiding principles of the German Caritas Association or Diakonie Germany are prerequisites. With a total funding amount of 15,000 euros across four categories, including the main prize endowed with 6,000 euros, the award not only provides financial support but also generates public attention for pioneering, sustainable solutions. Evaluation criteria include, in addition to formal requirements, the degree of innovation, the linkage of various social, ecological, and economic concerns, resource-efficient use, as well as impact-oriented monitoring and transparent public relations.
Applications from denominational organizations are possible until September 30, 2026. A complete submission requires the project description according to the selection criteria (detailed PDF document) and proof of project implementation start. The jury, composed of representatives from insurers in the church sector, German Caritas, and Diakonie Germany, selects the awardees based on innovativeness, current relevance, and cooperative partnership. The ceremonial award presentation will take place in December 2026 in Berlin and includes, besides the main prize, two secondary prizes each endowed with 3,000 euros as well as a public award. The innovatio Social Award highlights pioneering initiatives and promotes sustainable societal change.
