Description
The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) nationwide supports interdisciplinary projects that systematically examine existing datasets for better representation of women and gender-specific biases. Projects are funded up to 100% of eligible expenses – including personnel and material costs as well as travel expenses – for a duration of up to 24 months. The objective is to develop or validate methods and procedures to test Artificial Intelligence for Gender Data Bias and to optimize datasets so that women-specific issues can be validly addressed. In this way, the program makes a significant contribution to closing the gender data gap in medical research.
Eligible to apply are public or state-recognized universities as well as non-university, institutionally funded research institutions with proven expertise in data science and clinical women's health. A prerequisite is an interdisciplinary team of data scientists and clinically active physicians, the exclusive use of existing datasets from national health research data infrastructures, and confirmation of data accessibility by the data-providing infrastructure. The funding titles AZA, AZAP, AZV, or AZK may be selected. Required are the formal funding application, a six-page project description, CVs of the project leaders, a financing plan, and proof of data access. The submission deadline is 09.08.2026 (electronically); the legally binding signed paper copy must be received by the DLR Project Management Agency no later than two weeks after the deadline.
