Institute of Science and Technology Austria

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Lower Austria was established through an agreement pursuant to Art. 15a B-VG between the federal government and the state of Lower Austria and continuously receives real estate, infrastructure, and operating resources. The funding includes investments in buildings, infrastructure, and facility management as well as coverage of operating costs. The goal is to create optimal conditions for cutting-edge research and high-quality postgraduate education in PhD and postdoctoral programs. By providing a modern campus and ensuring the permanent provision of operating funds, an excellent scientific infrastructure is guaranteed, which strengthens international cooperation and knowledge transfer.

Public and educational institutions as legal entities under public law based in Lower Austria are eligible for funding, specifically the Institute of Science and Technology Austria itself. A prerequisite for funding is the existing 15a agreement as well as the implementation of the project at the Lower Austria location. Only the institute as the sponsor of research and training programs is entitled to apply. Eligible expenses include investments in buildings and infrastructural measures, expenses for facility management, and ongoing operating costs. Applications can be submitted at any time within the framework of the existing agreement; there is no formal deadline. Through continuous monitoring and evaluation after ten years, the long-term quality of the funding is ensured. This funding measure makes a significant contribution to establishing and further developing an internationally recognized research location in Lower Austria.
