Description

The boarding school allowance from the Styrian State Government supports students of health and nursing schools in Styria as well as their low-income families. The aim is to alleviate the incurred boarding school fees, which are granted on a sliding scale based on the income verification of the legal guardians. Classified under the funding areas of education, health, social affairs, and training & further education, this grant provides reliable assistance for families with low income. As a non-repayable contribution, this social and family benefit supports the school stay at the boarding school. Applications can be submitted by May 31 and December 31 each year to ensure continuous funding. Since the start of the application period in September 2013, there has been no time limitation on the measure.

Prerequisites for application are confirmed affiliation with a Styrian health and nursing school as well as submission of a current income verification. Only the incurred boarding school fees are eligible for funding and must be documented by the completed application form. Required documents include, in addition to the application form, a complete income verification of the family. No additional processing fees are charged, ensuring barrier-free access. The specialist department “Science and Health” of the state government reviews the documents promptly and decides on the amount of the grant based on the financial situation. The basis is a government resolution from 1996 on social hardship regulations in nursing education, aiming to provide dedicated trainees at the boarding school with a secure perspective.
