Description
The boarding place funding of the Sports Foundation NRW aims to reduce the financial pressure on young elite athletes in North Rhine-Westphalia. For a period of up to 36 months, the foundation provides a monthly grant of up to 350 euros, limiting the costs of the boarding school stay to a maximum of 300 euros per month. Supported are athletes from grades 8 to the end of grade 10 and from grade 11 until graduation from the junior squads NK 1, NK 2, State Squad Plus, or corresponding World Games junior squads. A total of around 150 funding places are available, selected semi-annually through an expert review process. The funding starts at the beginning of the school year in August or at mid-year in February, with payments made regularly in the middle of the month.
Requirements for a successful funding application include a confirmed place at a NRW sports boarding school as well as a Thuringian NRW connection, either through club affiliation, training center at a federal training base, or residence in North Rhine-Westphalia. Furthermore, the squad status must be confirmed by the specialist federation. Submission is made digitally via the DokuMe portal by the deadlines of April 30 (funding start August) and October 31 (funding start February). The anonymized evaluation criteria include NRW connection, squad status, and athletic prospects. After a positive decision by the board, the Sports Foundation promptly informs the applicants. This program offers reliable support for talented young athletes who wish to optimally combine academic education and elite sports.
